You've Been Blogged!

A very special thanks to two of the youngest fashion blog photographers Kate and Emily (aged 7 and 5) for taking my pictures on Friday, before the impromptu beach getaway. Not only did they do an excellent job, but Kate, after about six pictures were taken, stated, "You've been blogged," and then handed the camera back to me. And she was right -- all the pictures that I needed were there. Such efficiency.

I needed an outfit that would be both suitable for teaching and comfortable for a car ride, and after seeing Erin's success of a mixed pattern earlier in the week, I was inspired. The outfit quite accurately displayed my present mental state: I'm completely ready for spring (sundress, sunglasses, open-toe shoes), but understand that there are still winter storm warnings for the area (heavy, wintery cardigan, tights). Additionally, I enjoy this outfit for its fashion merits. The black sweater and black dress worked well together, and although this is my first time pairing bright tights with open-toe shoes, I have to say that I am a big fan.

She Wore a Raspberry Beret

This past weekend, my aunts included me on their Outer Banks beach getaway. It was a lot of driving (9 hours each way), but totally worth it. Bare legs and bright colors were of course my personal uniform for the weekend, and I chose to wear this blouse because I knew I could incorporate my bright yellow shoes and new pink hat. I can already tell that my spring wardrobe this year will be full of very bright colors.

The Bluestocking Society

Educating young adults about 18th century Bluestockings: a great way to spend an hour. Doing it while wearing blue stockings? A true Ms. Frizzle moment.

This dress is rendered work appropriate by a top-buttoned cardigan. It has a slightly cleavage-baring keyhole cutout at the front and another at the back, but the cardigan takes it from cocktail wear to classroom appropriate.

Aphids in the Rose Garden

Another day, another fashion risk. I wanted to take mixed patterns to the next level, so I paired polka dots and a floral in what I think was a very successful combination.
While I went the extra step and paired the mix with a skirt and bright tights, on reflection I think I would let the dots and roses shine on their own with either denim or black pants (and probably a pink shoe!) I'll keep you posted.

Yikes! Stripes!

Normally I tend to shy away from horizontal stripes, but this dress is way to comfortable to ignore. And I feel like thinner horizontal stripes are more flattering than thicker ones. Did I just make that up?
Once again with the belt. Anyone surprised? Oh, right, and the shoes. I know I know, you all are shocked. See why I take massive breaks on here? I'm so gosh darn predictable!
Just a side shot to show how the stripes match up on the bottom, but not really on the top, am I the only one confused by that??

Fashion from Friends

It is a truth universally acknowledged that if I'm wearing something extremely cool and quirky, there is a very high chance that Camilla, former roommate and Swedish superstar, bought it for me. Aside from those few years in Etown, Cammy only lives in very cool places -- Stockholm, Madrid, Minnesota (she claims it's cool) -- and is bonded to me through our love of all things quirky. Thus, through Christmas, birthday, and house guest presents, I've acquired quite the collection of cool Camilla things. This amazing owl shirt -- featuring a ribbon bow on his bow tie -- is no exception.
I went with the nerdy academic theme that the owl was rocking, and paired the shirt with one of my favorite old man cardigans and my fur color. The shorts, tights, and sandals added to the quirky feel of the outfit, a casual day off look perfect for trips to the dentist (eek!) and Target (yay!).

Blue and Gold: An update on the Derry Trojans

So as Anna and faithful reader Amanda know, we went to Derry Area (cue the laughs because of the resemblance to sounding like derriere) and the school colors were blue and gold. I wasn't really thinking of that while planning/wearing/photographing this outfit, but I needed a post title and that's all I could come up with - Listen, I'm out of practice naming these, give me a creative break.

I wore this to a meeting with a school counselor about doing my internship in the fall. She complimented me on all my upper bling so I take that as reassurance of a successful outfit. The dress is super comfortable, and I once again used this cardigan to drape over a dress that needed some shapely definition. I also like the gray (grey?)/blue color combo.

So even though I've been M.I.A, do you feel better knowing that I'm still addicted to my skinny black belt and black heels? No? What's that? You're bored with my predictability? Oh. Right.

Maybe I'll post some more outfits soon if I ever stop fighting with my cheap-o tripod that's more like a bi-pod with it's one bum leg that keeps falling and whatnot.
