Flashback Surprise

Pictured here are Mark and Karen taking the their first steps in marriage. We could dissect the highs (the amazing veil) and lows (oh, that tie) of their fashion, but instead, I'd just like to say Happy 30th Wedding Anniversary, Mom and Dad. I'm sure I only dress the way I do because of your marriage of the desire to be well-presented and acute eye for detail with a love of the spotlight and a penchant for the ridiculous.

And any card I send would just take too long to get home. xoxo Anna Rae

Flashback Friday: Venus Girl Trap...Jealous?

So because I already had a flashback episode this week, I really had to bring out a goodie with today's Flashback Friday. This, my friends, is my 7th grade school picture. Woof!

There are just so many things wrong with this picture. First of all, let's start with the least offensive aspect: my shirt color. 7th grade Libby, 7th grade Libby, 7th grade Libby, please don't wear this color green. It makes you look pukey and jaundiced. It's just unfortunate looking all around.

Next, why did I think it was a good idea to wear a shirt for a school picture that contains the saying "Venus Girl Trap"? It was from PacSun - I distinctly remember because I went through a phase where I would wear nothing but PacSun clothing and my mom hated it...it's pretty obvious why after looking at this picture. And it's so unfortunate that this is the mental image I have of PacSun even today because I've looked at other blogs and PacSun is carrying some cute things! Darn my 7th grade style.

Now let's move onto the hair...oh the hair! It's so.frizzy.! I clearly tried to hot roll fabulous curls in order to impress some boy or another, but let's face it, (and pardon the pun) it fell flat. You know what didn't fall flat, though? My eyebrows. Holy cow those things look bushy enough to be 3D! Wow, you don't even need those fancy glasses, my eyebrows jump out of the computer screen on their own. I won't complain too much, though; we saw from my 8th grade Mathlete photo how thin my eyebrows get and that really isn't a good thing, either.

And, I also vividly remember that headband. Did you all wear those metal headbands with the little teeth that would dig into your scalp and hurt so badly and not even do anything special enough to withstand the pain? Ohh, memories. Did you guys do anything in the name of fashion that now when you look back on it was either A) Painful B) Extra ridiculous looking (It's okay, everyone was wearing acid wash jeans) or C) Just plain Laughable??

I will also only spend a minute on my bad teeth - I begged for braces because of how much I hated my gapped teeth. I was so embarrassed - teeth are very important to me. Finally, in 9th grade I got my wish, and braces. Phew. (No joke, that image that I just linked would totally be me presently if I had to get braces...sweater vest, argyle, bangs and all).

Isn't it funny though? How willing I am to share these hideous pictures of my face yet feel so uncomfortable now? Maybe I'll start posting some pics of my face currently, school picture style followed by my outfit for the day. Yeah, maybe that way I'll get over my awkwardness. At least nothing can be worse than this...right?

It's not Friday, but let us Flashback anyways....

How cute am I? Srsly, I'm freaking adorable. And stylish. And cocking my head like a dog that just doesn't quite understand. "Here Libby. Libby! Look here. Okay, now sit. Siiiit. Libby! Sit. Okay, now smile. Yes. Good girl." Yup, just like a dog. But really, nautical is so in right now and I'm so glad my style transcends the ages.

So this is my kindergarten school picture - I was 5. My bob is, well, bowl-cut-like, right? I mean, I know I went to Studio 30 and got this cut intentionally. I mean, my hair was LONG and I remember going to my hairdresser, (shoot, what was her name? I loved her. Mom, a little help here, please) and asking for this cut. My "bangs" are just so short.

Also, I remember this outfit and loving it. It was a one piece dress - so comfortable. And apparently I was a little brat and insisted that I would not wear pants - only dresses. My mom does a classic impression of when we would go shopping and I would be all hand on hip, "Mummy, I will not wear pants, only dresses!" Ugh, I would've left me in the store. Or been all "Libby, stay. Staaaaaay. Okay, heel. Now try on these pants. Libby! Put on these pants. Now. [Cue head cock]. Gooood girl."

Funny story. When I was younger, my hair was pretty blonde. While sitting in church my mom asked (rhetorically, I suppose, but I answered anyways because at the age of around 5, who even understands the meaning of rhetorically?) where my blonde hair came from? Well my dad's mom, Granny, had blonde hair, so I said "Granny." Apparently that was the funniest thing ever because my Granny did not come by her blonde hair naturally. How scandalous! (If my mom wanted a good answer, maybe she shouldn't have asked a 5 year old, all the while distracting precious little me during church of all places.) Tsk tsk, mother. :)

One last thing - let us notice how my lips have not grown since that age of 5 - try putting chapstick on when even blistex is too wide. Or try losing sight of your top lip when you smile or close your mouth. Actually, now that I look at it, I think my lips may have shrunk. Awesome. Maybe you would notice, too, if I ever dared to show my face on this site....don't hold your breath, readers. It's not happening anytime soon.

Until tomorrow. Libby

Dress: Somewhere cute, obviously.

Flashback Friday!!

WHOA! Hold the phone, what the hell are we looking at above here? Please, just bear with me if you can and we'll get to it. Whether you like it or not. Promise.
Anyways, who is super excited that it's Friday?? I am! I am! I am super excited for many reasons.
1. You all get to have a sneak preview of me from this awesome picture from 8th grade. I know, I'm sure you're all saying, well if this is the sneak preview, I'm not willing to give up my time and subscribe to this blog because I've seen the future, and it's not looking good. Well friends, trust me, I have gotten slightly better looking (Well, let's hope, right?). Also, my sense of fashion has matured and evolved (Once, again, let's hope).
And finally 2. I'm dog sitting the adorable Ruby this weekend. She's super cute and rambunctious.
So, let's move on to the today's picture. Hopefully, Flashback Friday will be a regular occurrence on our beloved blog, because if you can't laugh at your past fashion faux pas, what can you laugh at? Let us take this picture step by step as to not get overwhelmed by it's shear awesomeness.

A. Yes, I was an 8th grade Math Competition Winner. Jealous? Wait, what's that? You're not? You're actually embarrassed for me? Well, I have news for you, ever fashionable readers, I love math and am not ashamed of it (pushing imaginary glasses further up on nose).
B. Yes, faithful readers, those are cargo jeans you are seeing. Once again, jealous? Okay, so at first I was horrified at these jeans, but then I looked to the person on my right. Guess what, she's also wearing cargo jeans. So look who was little miss fashionable even back then?? Okay, so maybe I wouldn't go as far as to call cargo jeans fashionable, but at least I wasn't the only kid rockin' them. Also, who didn't own a pair of cargo somethings? I had a favorite pair of drawstring khaki cargo pants from Limited Too. Gosh I miss those...
Let's face it though. My hips were big enough without slapping big ol' pockets on them. And it's not like they served a purpose, I wasn't keeping tator tots, nails, or I don't know, cargo of some sort in them.
C. I also would like to point out the fact that I had apparently not discovered a hair straightener yet. I had, though, from the looks of it, discovered tweezers because can we talk (blog) about how thin my eyebrows look? That's not just my imagination, right? Well, at least something back then was thin on me. Zing.
D. Finally, let us next look to the girl on my left. There is a scrunchy on her wrist. Oh, how I long for the days of storing a scrunchy on my wrist - It was SO convenient! Apparently, or so I've heard, scrunchies are coming back in. And even though in the sentence prior to this one I praised scrunchies, I don't really want them to come back in style. They're so deliciously tacky...but I guess they can add some flare to your hair....in an obnoxious sort of way.

Well, that's all the fashion mishaps I can possibly handle for one day. Perhaps next week, we'll delve deeper into my picture archives and relive when I (my mom) feathered my bangs as a youngin'. Or, maybe we can showcase my track suit that I wore for picture day in 2nd grade. Now those, I miss.
