Famous [White] Raincoat

On Friday, I rewore my new favorite dress -- playing up the bright coral in its bold design with yellow accessories, including a belt, shoes, and purse. The outfit was both professional and fun, perfect for a law school graduation and celebration dinner.
For an extra splash of fun, I wore these adorable owl earrings (you may need to click through to really see them), in a nice neutral bronze. Even I know that three pieces of yellow are probably enough.

This trench, which I bought during a weekend trip to Paris, once I realized after living in London for two weeks that sweaters just don't protect your clothes from the rain, is one of my favorite pieces. Every time I wear it, I immediately feel chic. Do you have any pieces like that?

Mixed Showers, Mixed Patterns

I am so glad I bought these fancy rainboots! (previously seen here and here) What might have seemed like the silliest purchase ever has made dressing for drizzle more of a joy than a chore. Adding to the silver lining? Stripes and polka dots. As recommended by many a magazine editorial, I kept the colours in the same family and the size of print similar for maximal mixing magic.

I love this blouse of course because of its polka dots (my nominee for the greatest print of all time) but also because the dots are actually slightly irregular splotches. Less visible in the photo but equally wonderful is the giant bow at the neck. My taste might be predictable but at least I'm consistent!

Little Red Raining Hood

The Pacific Northwest was typically drizzly and dreary today so I thought a shot of red was what it needed.

Despite its generous hood, the coat is woollen with cropped sleeves, making it somewhat impractical for heavy rain but workable for showers with the addition of long gloves.

The sweater dress (tunic?) is super cosy cashmere so it feels like loungewear while looking out-of-the-house worthy. Plus I once wore it to see the Spice Girls in concert, so if that memory doesn't brighten up a day I don't know what does.

Pussy Footin' Around

Could these rain boots be any more amazing? I lusted after them for the better part of a year, and finally rewarded myself with them this summer. Despite the sunny pictures (thanks Jenna!) the morning deluge made their debut appropriate.

I fell in love with their cheeky bows and sassy heels. Expect to see them a lot more-- Vancouver weather is such that the Cullen family would rarely have to resort to truancy.

The other bow in question is a pussy bow. Much beloved by upstart working girls everywhere (see Peggy Olson) this jaunty bit of feline foppery adds retro femininity to any look. I paired the blouse with a zebra cardigan and daisy earrings to tweak the bow in a more current direction while still keeping the vintage feel.
