To Clip or Not to Clip?

Another day, another post, but sadly not another dollar in the skirt. Wah wah. Does this shirt look familiar? Well it should - I wore it with the skirt I posted the other day. Judge me? Ooooof course not! This was also an outfit I wore to class when it was extremely hot last week and even thinking about walking 200 yards to class made me sweat. GROSS. This also contributed to growing my bangs out and pinning them back - sweaty/curly/greasy bangs are for some reason not considered cute or fashionable... weird I know!
So the point of this post, I know that it's surprising I actually have a point today because I usually (most certainly) do not. This skirt is very nice and summery because it is so light and airy. In the first two pictures, however, I'm cheating by using a clip in the back to hold it up higher on my waist. (Hmm, cheating seems to be a theme lately, is my time away from a workplace clouding my better judgment??) Back on topic, though, does the skirt look infinitely better placed higher on my waist?
Don't ask me, I don't know! See, it's my confused face. (Some people make better confused faces than others....I've just started showing my face. Lay off me!) So once again readers (Amanda) I need your opinion. Obviously I did not wear a huge visible clip to class and instead wore the skirt placed lower on my waist, but when does it look BETTER?

Until tomorrow. Libby

And now for a brief hiatus

Why am I posing with this suitcase? Because I'm leaving for Montreal very, very soon. I like to pack go-to outfits, which means they'll all probably be repeats, so I probably won't be posting anything until next week. Good thing Libby's back to fill the void!
Think of me throughout the next week wearing this adorable and recently thrifted black and white floral print, the picture of summer fun. Last week, when I was in Pittsburgh staying with my aunts, I stopped in a thrift store for a quick 10 minutes before a hair appointment, immediately saw this dress, and knew I needed it for summer.
Of course, since I can't just wear a dress, I decided to wear this one backwards, giving the front a lovely Audrey Hepburn look and the back a great deep V.
A black belt and metallic necklace added a little edge to the summer femininity.

I'll see you in a week, older and infinitely more fashionable after a week in hip and stylish Montreal. xoxo Anna Rae

I guess Hell finally froze over...

Two posts in one day?! Showing my face to boot?! Who the heck do I think I am? Anna freakin' Rae? Okay so really this isn't so much me showcasing my outfit, it's more of me needing your opinion. Readers, I NEED YOUR HELP.
So, I'm going to this wedding in August and this is one of my dress choices. I feel like Cher in Clueless when she has Dionne take pictures of Cher's possible outfits for her date with Christian because she only trusts Polaroids and never mirrors to show her how an outfit looks. Phew, run-on sentences are BACK.
Annnnnnywho, is this dress appropriate? Is it too short? I know it has sleeves and the wedding is in August, but it's an evening wedding and I just really like this dress. I've only ever worn it in the winter with tights, so the length was never a problem. Thoughts?
Also, I would like to mention how I love these heels. Such a fun detail with the heel and I will most likely end up wearing them to the wedding even if I don't wear this dress because I feel like I don't wear them enough and they just really need to see somewhere other than the outside of my closet. Wow, when run-on sentences make a comeback, they really make a comeback. And another update, I'm growing my bangs out. What is your opinion on that matter? Anyone? Any of you abundant 13 followers out there? 13+Amanda? Please give me your feedback! Thanks!

UPDATE: There are two other dresses I have which could be possibilities so I will try those on in the next couple of days and see what you all think... definitely Cher in Clueless.
Until tomorrow. Libby

I found a Dollar, I found a Dollar, I found a Dollar hey, hey, hey, hey!

Oh hi. Remember me? No? I don't blame you because there are so many new followers here that I don't know any of you either! Well a quick introduction: I used to post on this blog (mostly) everyday. Then, back in April I quit my job and stopped dressing nicely. Well now I've starting feeling guilty and decided to post again. And if you're new here, me showing my face is a big deal. A very big deal indeed. Don't believe me? Go back awhile (okay, a couple of months) and see if you can find my face in more than a handful of posts.
So here's a little secret. It was gross out today so I took these next few post's pictures all today. I've worn the outfits to school recently, so it's really not technically cheating, right? RIGHT? Listen, don't give me attitude, ya'll..be glad I'm actually posting.
So the whole title of this post revolves around the idea that when I went to pose and strategically placed my hands in my pockets, I FOUND A DOLLAR! That may not seem like much to most people, but like I said numerous times before, I'm unemployed. Blah blah blah, I know, but hey, it's the little things in life.

Last time I wore this skirt, I paired it with a white collared shirt and gray shoes. This time it was too hot to wear any sort of sleeve, so it was this black number because my white one was dirty and yellow shoes just make me smile. See, my outfit decisions and descriptions are much simpler and less fashion-oriented than Annies...my outfits are basically based on what is currently in the laundry!

Until tomorrow (and this time I can say that and mean it because, like I said, I took a bunch of posts today so you're guaranteed another one. Also, I need help deciding on if an outfit is appropriate or not for a wedding I'm supposed to go to in August. Ulterior motives? Yes and yes...I got no shame!)...Libby

Outfits so nice, you'll wear them twice

I'm very excited to blog this outfit,a s it is my current favorite. I wore the exact same thing yesterday and today, which is always a sign of true love.
I bought this dress during half-off day at the St. Mary's Hospital Thrift Store, during a small town thrifting excursion at Erin's cabin, but it was far too long and my mom, the talented seamstress that she is, didn't have a chance to pin me in it and sew it until Saturday.
This trunk belonged to my great-grandmother and it is so beautiful. Also, it's posts like these that remind me how much I hate posing. It just makes me cringe -- good thing I'm sitting with such lovely furniture in a hallway so white it could be a studio space.
I neglected to really take a close up of the shoes, but they also have tiny polka dots on them, a pairing I tried earlier with my purple (or blue, as some insist) polka dot dress, and it was a pairing I loved. The dress looks cute without the belt, but I thought it dressed the outfit up a little, and I liked the way it flair the skirt out a bit.
Erin bought me this brooch as a going away present, and although this is the first time it's been photographed, it's the third or fourth outfit combination involving black and white that it's been a part of (new! black and white thrifted floral sundress, black and white striped tank top, black and white striped tshirt...), fitting since we all know Erin loves black, white, and a splash of color.

Dress: Thrifted, St. Mary's Hospital Thrift Store
Brooch: Gifted, Erin (but also Thrifted)
Belt: Gifted, Erin
Shoes: Old Navy
The great advantage of having your mom as your seamstress, aside of course from the price and convenience of having your dress hemmed in the kitchen while you eat lunch, is that you can convince her to make you a polka dot scarf out of the left over dress material. xoxo Anna Rae

Dressed up sharp and felt alright

I've been reading A Thought is the Blossom like it's going out of style, clicking back through the archives and seething jealousy for her amazing vintage finds and strange (in that oh so hip way) way of posing for pictures. I think the obsession shows in this post.

My Saturday was pretty lazy, two big highlights being a new skirt from a new to me thrift store and a lovely walk around the neighborhood in the evening. I realized that I actually really liked the outfit I wore for my walk - which included the new skirt - and hurried to take some photos. The setting sun, a dying camera battery, and not-yet-honed self-timer skills can be blamed for the lack of quantity and absence of a true This Is My Outfit picture.
I love over dressing, and I think this thrifted top really helped to style my new purchase, a pretty modern Old Navy summer skirt. My necklace actually just got tangled when I tried to undo its double loop, but I like how it almost looks like a tie.
I wore my mustard knee socks and brown oxfords, really loving the way they completed the outfit. And, yes, I know I looked totally insane in the 85 degree weather.

Skirt: Thrifted, church thrift store in Greensburg, originally Old Navy
Shirt: Thrifted, St. Vincent de Paul, Latrobe
Socks: Target
Shoes: Thrifted, St. Mary's Hospital Thrift Store
Necklace: Real Canadian Superstore

Back to regular posts with informative pictures soon. xoxo Anna Rae

Too Cool for Night School

Why do I look so forlorn? Because I am dressed for my return to teaching for this semester. Nothing makes me more likely to stare wistfully into the distance than the prospect of summer nights in a classroom teaching business communication.
The remedy: a bold black & white print, a bright colour, pants that are more Sandy post-makeover than business casual...

and a sassy pair of pointy-toed flats.
Jacket: RW&Co
T-shirt: Express
Pants: LeChateau
Flats: Sam Edelman
